With an e-visit, reaching your primary care doctor for common, nonurgent care has never been easier. By filling out a secure, online questionnaire through your My UC Health account, you may be able to receive a diagnosis and treatment plan, including prescription needs, without a trip to the office. It’s as simple as sending an email.

My UC Health, also known as MyChart, is a free, safe and secure online tool that gives you direct access to your personal health information from your smartphone, tablet or computer anytime, anywhere. If you have a primary care provider at UC Health, you can use your account to start your e-visit now.

Answers to Your E-Visit Questions

An e-visit is a virtual visit with your primary care provider that allows you to receive a diagnosis and treatment plan for common, nonurgent medical conditions. No appointment or phone call needed.

You can start an e-visit with your primary care provider by simply logging into My UC Health (MyChart) and answering a series of questions about your health.

Within two (2) business days, your provider will also be able to prescribe any needed medication directly through the e-visit to allow for easy pick-up of prescriptions at your pharmacy.

All e-visit communication occurs in writing through your My UC Health account. There is no video, visual, photo, or verbal contact between you and your provider.

In order to use this service, you must be at least 18 years of age, and have been seen by a UC Health primary care provider in the last 12 months. Due to differing state laws and regulations regarding the practice of medicine, e-visits are only available for primary care patients who are located in Ohio.

Here’s how to start your e-visit:

  1. Log into My UC Health.
  2. Click on the e-visit icon.
  3. Accept the terms and conditions.
  4. Answer a series of questions about your health. 

Once submitted, your provider will review your questionnaire and respond back via your My UC Health (MyChart) account within two (2) business days.

The length of your e-visit depends on how quickly you answer the questions about your condition or symptoms. Most e-visits take 10–20 minutes to complete. You may be asked for details regarding your insurance, payment, or medications. Please be prepared to verify or add this information, as you cannot save your progress and finish later.

If you have had this condition treated at the office in the past seven (7) days, please call the office.

UC Health offers e-visits on a limited basis through My UC Health (MyChart). E-visits may be temporarily covered by some health insurance carriers. UC Health will send an invoice to your insurance carrier after each visit. If you have a deductible, copay, or a remaining balance, you will receive a bill for the e-visit based on your benefits and defined by your insurance carrier.  If you do not have insurance coverage, you will receive a bill for your e-visit appointment with a 40% discount applied.  

After accepting the terms and conditions of an e-visit, you may be asked for your insurance information. If you do not complete the e-visit, you will not be charged. If you are redirected to the office, you also may not be charged.

If your e-visit ends with a decision that the physician needs to see you in the office at the next available appointment, the e-visit encounter is considered part of the preservice work of the subsequent office visit, and you will not be charged separately.

You can request an e-visit any day or time. You should receive a response back from your provider within two (2) business days.

No. E-visits are not intended to be used for urgent conditions or emergency care, and cannot be used for follow-up from motor vehicle accidents or for worker's compensation cases.

For medical emergencies, call 911 immediately. Please contact your doctor’s office if you have time-sensitive healthcare needs that you do not consider to be an emergency.

When you are completing the e-visit questionnaire, you will see a list of symptoms. If you do not see your symptoms listed, that service is not offered for an e-visit. If this is the case, please cancel your e-visit and contact your provider to request a phone visit, virtual visit or in-office visit.

Yes. E-visits are a feature of My UC Health, a safe and secure online application that has the same security and confidentiality standards as traditional, in-person office visits. The technology complies with the Health Insurance Portability and Affordability Act (HIPAA) and meets all federal and state security and confidentiality requirements.
